Stump pain typically occurs following an amputation. Stump pain is usually caused by nerve injury within the amputation stump. It is described as sharp, shooting, achy, burning, or cramping pain. Over time, it may become more or less severe. This problem often precludes the use of prosthesis or crutches; thereby, significantly affecting one’s quality of life.
